- Less than three months remain before the big day – or rather, the big
days – for Talita Borges Vicari and Ronald Halliday, the lucky pair
whom serendipity brought together more than two and a half years ago.
With so little time left prior to the wedding(s), The Interloper
decided to pop in on our busy couple to see how they are making out.“I went to the dressmaker for my pre-fitting on Thursday,” Talita smiles enthusiastically. “And in two weeks I’ll go back to try it on for the first time. But my hubby looks so cute in his suit!” she gushes, provoking a pained expression from the groom in question. “Can you believe he spent an entire day last week with my father looking at fabric samples for his vest?” “I think it will be the only time that any of those places ever see two men coming in at the same time,” Ron jokes. “Regrettably, none of the shops we visited had what I was looking for so we’ll be checking back with them again after the next shipments arrive.” The pair now has all of the necessary church documents in order, with Ron’s baptism certificate having arrived from Canada at the end of March and recent completion of a marriage course held at the Parish of Father Pius in Brasilia.  “It was staged at our church over an entire
weekend,” Talita recalls.
“During the talks and speeches we were shown what makes for a loving
marriage. Successful couples explained how they had worked together
through difficult times and their own differences to become stronger
and more devoted to each other.”“Which is very good,” Ron quips, casting a conspiratorial glance at his bride. “Because when we were asked the one thing we would change about our partner I wrote that she should try not to control things so much…” “…And I answered that he should plan more,” she laughs in response, supplying the punch line ala Johnny Wayne. In this tag team combination, one person’s weakness is the other’s strength. Case in point: the evening they discovered a mistake on their wedding invitations. Talita had convinced herself that the print shop would refuse to redo the photos albeit that the error was clearly of their doing, so she had written a rather un-diplomatic e-mail to the owner replete with step-by-step instructions on how to remedy the oversight. Ron, having run his own business for nearly a decade, was able to put himself in the printer’s shoes. He realized immediately that the owner would have to admit her mistake, minimizing the need to be confrontational with someone that they were still relying on. Or when Talita had an afternoon off and she suggested that they take advantage of it to go to Tok & Stok in order to fill out their wedding list. “She always makes such good use of her time,” Ron remarks. “Somehow she finds the energy to take care of all of these things on top of her responsibilities at Rio Branco. And when Talita gets an idea in her head, she follows it all the way through – it took her one day to finalize the wedding music once she decided she had to have it done.” The Interloper was given a sneak peak at her selection. It’s a well-balanced combination of classical and modern classical pieces sure to compliment the festive atmosphere surrounding the event. Not one(s) to leave anything to chance, Ron and Talita are also selecting the music to be played at both receptions; there is likely to be a smattering of Brazilian and Canadian tunes heard throughout the two evenings. Still, while some things have been set in stone, others ideas continue to evolve. The soon-to-be happy couple was off to Belo Horizonte on Saturday for yet another cousin’s wedding, the second they’ve attended in the last six months. "Too many ideas, too few weddings," Ron smiles. Faltam menos de três meses faltam para o grande dia – ou melhor,
os grandes dias – para Talita Borges Vicari e Ronald Halliday, o par
sortudo que serendipity reuniu dois anos e meio atrás.
Com tão pouco tempo restante antes do(s) casamento(s), O
Interloper decidiu checar o casal ocupado para ver como eles
estão se virando.“Eu fui à estilista na quinta-feira,” sorri Talita com entusiasmo. “E daqui a duas semanas voltarei para experimentar o vestido pela primeira vez. Mas meu maridinho fica tão fofo no terno dele!” ela se derrete, provocando embaraço no noivo em questão. “Dá para acreditar que ele gastou um dia inteiro da semana passada com meu pai olhando amostras de tecido para seu colete?” “Eu acho que foi a única ocasião em que qualquer destes lugares já viu dois homens entrando ao mesmo tempo,” brinca Ronald. “Infelizmente, nenhuma das lojas que nós visitamos tinham o que eu estava buscando então vamos checar com eles de novo após a chegada das próximas coleções.” Agora o par tem todos os documentos necessários para a igreja em ordem, com a certidão de batismo de Ronald que chegou do Canadá no final de março e o recente curso de noivos realizado na Paróquia de Padre Pio em Brasília. “Ocorreu em nossa igreja durante um fim de semana inteiro,” recorda Talita. “Durante as palestras e os bate-papos eles nos mostraram o que possibilita um casamento feliz. Casais bem-sucedidos explicaram como eles trabalharam juntos nas horas difíceis e suas próprias diferenças para tornarem-se mais fortes e mais dedicados um ao outro.” “O que é muito bom,” graceja Ronald, olhando conspiratoriamente para sua noiva. “Pois quando fomos questionados sobre a única coisa que nós mudaríamos no parceiro eu escrevi que ela deveria tentar não controlar as coisas tanto…” “…E eu respondi que ele deveria planejar mais,” ela ri na resposta, aproveitando a deixa como Didi. Nessa equipe de revezamento, a fraqueza de uma pessoa é a força da outra. Exemplo: a noite em que eles descobriram uma falha nos convites de casamento. Talita já tinha se convencido de que a gráfica iria recusar refazer os fotos embora fosse claramente erro da própria gráfica, então ela escreveu um e-mail bastante não diplomático para a dona repleto de instruções passo-a-passo sobre como remediar o escorregão. Ronald, tendo sido dono de seu próprio negócio por quase uma década, foi capaz de se pôr no lugar da gráfica. Sabia imediatamente que a dona teria que admitir seu equívoco, minimizando a necessidade de se confrontar com alguém de quem ainda dependiam. Ou quando Talita teve uma tarde livre e sugeriu que eles aproveitassem para ir à Tok & Stok para montar sua lista de casamento. “Ela está sempre usando seu tempo bem,” repara Ronald. “De alguma maneira, ela acha energia para cuidar de todas estas coisas além de suas responsabilidades do Rio Branco. E quando Talita põe uma idéia na cabeça dela, ela a segue até o fim – ela levou um dia para finalizar a música de casamento uma vez que decidiu que deveria ser feita.” O Interloper ganhou uma espiada na seleção dela. É uma combinação bem equilibrada de peças clássicas e clássico-modernas que vão certamente complementar a atmosfera festiva ao redor do evento. Não deixando nada ao acaso, Ronald e Talita estão escolhendo as músicas que vão ser tocadas durante ambas as recepções; é provável que haja uma alternância de canções brasileiras e canadenses ouvida ao longo das duas noites. Embora algumas coisas já tenham sido gravadas em pedra, outras idéias continuam a pintar. Os em breve pombinhos foram para Belo Horizonte no sábado para mais um casamento da prima da Talita, o segundo a que eles foram nos últimos seis meses. "Muitas idéias, poucos casamentos," sorri Ronald.
